BAMS college admission process in India
As of last update in September 2021, the admission process for BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) in India may have slight variations from state to state or among different colleges, but generally, the process follows these steps:
Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for BAMS admission, a candidate should have completed their 10+2 education from a recognized board with a science background (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) and have obtained minimum qualifying marks as specified by the respective college or university.
Entrance Exams: Many states and institutions conduct entrance exams for admission to BAMS courses. Some popular national-level entrance exams include NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) and AIAPGET (All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test) for postgraduate BAMS courses. The state-level entrance exams may vary depending on the state's norms.
Application Process: Candidates need to apply for the BAMS course through the respective entrance exam's official website or the college/university website where they wish to seek admission. The application form, availability of seats, and fee details will be mentioned on the website.
Admission Based on Merit: Some colleges may also offer admission based on merit, depending on the candidate's 10+2 examination scores and entrance exam performance. In such cases, the candidates are shortlisted based on their marks, and the final selection is done through a counseling process.
Counseling Process: Shortlisted candidates will be called for counseling sessions, where they can choose their preferred college/course based on their rank and availability of seats. The counseling process may involve multiple rounds, depending on the number of seats available and the number of applicants.
Document Verification: After the counseling process, selected candidates will have to undergo document verification. They will be required to submit their original documents and certificates for verification, such as mark sheets, caste certificates (if applicable), identity proofs, and other necessary documents.
Course Commencement: Once the document verification is completed, the candidates will be allotted seats in their chosen college. The academic session usually begins soon after the completion of the admission process.
It's important to note that the specific admission process may vary from one state or college to another. It is advisable for prospective candidates to visit the official websites of the colleges they are interested in or refer to the admission brochures for detailed and up-to-date information on the admission process, important dates, and any changes in eligibility criteria. Also, since it is now 2023, it's possible that there might have been updates or changes to the BAMS admission process in India since my last update.
